Black and white ebony

Diospyros Embryopteris

Black and white ebony, call in french as "ébène royal du Laos", is an even more valuable wood than Africa's black ebony and even than Macassar ebony. Its heartwood has an extraordinary veining made of irregular black interlacing on a pale gold background. Ebony is only half the volume of the tree's wood. It is a rare and highly sought-after substance in cabinetmaking.
