Gaboon ebony

Diospyros Crassiflora

Gaboon black ebony is a dense and hard precious material that forms the tree's heartwood of equatorial Africa. It was already estimated in ancient Egypt. The fineness of ebony grain makes it possible to give it a natural finish of a very great softness. Also, luthiers use it to make the key of stringed instruments. Gaboon ebony grows throughout central West Africa where craftsmen work it to create statues and traditional masks.
